This weeks photos I took at the same time as last week's. For this series I decided to go with a grid theme. I took scenery and found grids to place in the foreground. The results, I think, were interesting. The photos didn't turn out exactly the way I wanted but I was still pleased in the end.

For this week I went to New West and took photos of the different types of buildings. I'm really fond of the architecture there, so I thought it would be perfect for the series. I love the crisp colours and the solid blue background in this picture.
The theme for this week was portraits using one low light source. For my subject I used my friend, Manjot. I tried a dim yellow light in a few angles but the pictures just weren't looking the way I wanted them to. I added the light from the flashlight on my iPhone and got blueish tones. This blue light made me really excited since I like dark, cold pictures, so these pictures fit my photography style pretty well. I later used Photoshop to eliminate objects in the background and enhance the brightness in Manjot's face.
I've decided to make up my own themes for the weekly photo challenges. I looked up ideas online and found some helpful websites. One of them suggested a monochromatic theme, meaning composing of one colour or shade. In this project I used different types of citrus fruits and captured the detail and bright colours of the insides of them. I used Photoshop to enhance the colour and brightness of my photos and I think they turned out amazing.
I found an old apple in the fridge and I thought it would make the perfect subject for this project. I went around my kitchen to begin with, finding different things to do to the apple. I tried putting it in the microwave, but those shots didn't turn out the way I wanted or thought it would, so I moved on the oven. Got some great shots there, went to the sink, got some nice photos of the running water on the apple. Then I was stuck for the third scene. I couldn't really find any more cool places for the apple in the kitchen so I went upstairs to my room. I decided to put my apple on my candle and capture the smoke escaping from under it. The last ones with the smoke were the ones I favoured most.
For this series of photos, Manjot and I skytrained, got lost, bussed, and got lost even more to get to Lynn Canyon park. I thought of Lynn Canyon because I had gone there two summers ago and the creek was absolutely beautiful. We went off-trail to get right beside the creek, as you can see. It was raining heavily the whole time, so it was a struggle to keep our equipment safe. It was cloudy in North Van, so while editing I had to amp up the vibrancy in the greenery surrounding the creek. We ended up getting some amazing shots which I'm pretty proud of.
For this project I went to the Tynehead Park in Surrey and looked for scenery that captures the essence of British Columbia. This particular picture shows the bright blue skies and tall trees of BC. I like this picture the best out of the three because I like the contrast in the image. The sun behind the trees creates dark silhouettes which clearly contrasts from the much brighter sky. I think it creates a sort of emotion or feeling of being in darkness.
I took this picture in the bath. The colour composition really makes this picture cool. This was taken in a dark bathroom with my phone's camera on flash. A dark room and a flash camera is the ideal aesthetic for me. Pretty much anything dark is my go-to style. This style will be seen often on my page. I created motion in this picture by running the water over my hand making parts of the picture blurry.
This picture i found off tumblr, and i just love that site because theres some great, simple photography. I really like that style, simplistic. I think it makes a statement, like you know what you;re looking at. This simple and colourful style is what I want to try to do for one of my projects I think. This picture is also off of Tumblr. I really like this because, for me, it's really difficult to take pictures at night and have the city lights come out so nicely. This is something I want to achieve sometime and I think I will.
